The Original Bakewell Pudding Shop

We couldn’t talk about local food without mentioning one of the Peak District’s most famous creations, the Bakewell tart. This bakery on the historic market square makes and serves the original version of the pudding. Always packed, this is a must visit if you have a sweet tooth!

The Packhorse Inn

This country pub in picturesque surroundings serves incredible fresh, local food with a menu that changes daily. As if we needed more reasons to revisit! A common pit stop after a walk along the Monsal Trail, this cosy pub is ideal for a hearty meal with friends and family.

Eyam Tea Rooms

Check out the family-run Eyam Tea Rooms for a relaxing spot to enjoy a light lunch or cream tea. This dog friendly café serves delectable homemade cakes, breakfasts and lunches in the quaint and historic village of Eyam.

Peak Ales

With a range of award-winning beers and seasonal specials, a visit to this local brewery would make a fantastic trip. You can also take part in a brewery tour for just £6 per person! The tour includes a free pint at the brewery’s visitor centre on the Chatsworth Estate (although you have to make your own way there).

Bakewell Farmers Market

This multi-award-winning Farmers Market is now the second largest in the UK. It is usually held on the last Saturday of the month between 9am and 2pm, and has over 70 stalls packed with amazing local produce and crafts. Without a doubt, this is the best place to load up on treats to take back home with you.

From stately home tours to music festivals, it really does have something for everyone. Here are our top picks for school holiday events and attractions that are well worth your while.

Mount Cook Adventure Holiday Camps 

This is a 5 day event is full of awesome outdoor activities for children ages 8 to 12 years. You can also join for individual days to take part in some fun, challenging activities that are designed to get kids moving. Jolly July Open Day & Fun Dog Show

This family event, hosted by Ashbourne Animal Welfare, is perfect for animal lovers. Enjoy watching show entries such as best puppy and best biscuit catcher whilst supporting a great cause.

Chatsworth House

Chatsworth House provides a wonderful family-friendly day out. Meet the farmyard animals and enjoy a guided walk with some live music any day of the summer holidays.

Peveril Castle

These historic ruins set high above the charming village of Castleton date back to 1176 when it was a keep used by Henry II. Visit on 28^th and 29^th July and journey back in time with their Medieval Life event.

Pooles Cavern & Country Park

Go beneath the earth with expert guides and explore the impressive limestone caverns lined with crystal stalactites. There’s also beautiful woodland trails and panoramic views at Solomon’s Temple.

Amazing accommodation! Great area with lots to do. Can recommend Keddlestone (N.T) Hardwick hall (N.T), Eyam Village, monyash trail – easy and scenic cycle ride. Good food at the Church Inn at Chelmorton – quiz night Mondays and Anglers Rest at Millers dale – brass band on Thursdays.

Woodside Festival

Date: 16th June

Enjoy live music, art, wild activities and good food at this day festival set in the beautiful Erewash Valley. Organised by the Wildlife Trust, this event has been set up to raise awareness and funds for local wildlife. South of the Peak District, this festival will require a car or train journey, but promises to be well worth it.

Eroica Britannia

Date: 18th June

Set in 100 acres of woodlands and lush, green countryside, this 5 star family festival is one of the most highly anticipated events in the cycling calendar. There’s something for everyone with a whole range of entertainment. This includes organised bike rides, live music, fairground rides, festival yoga, as well as a kids club!

Timber

Dates: 6th-8th July

This new festival celebrates all forms of woodland culture. Exploring music, art, philosophy and sustainability, this unique event will undoubtedly be an unforgettable experience for all ages.

Bananallama

Dates: 13th-14th July

Set in the beautiful countryside near Matlock, this eccentric festival is a celebration of music, the arts and… llamas! Enjoy delicious food and drink while you soak up the fun and quirky entertainment.

Y Not

Dates: 26th-29th July

This hugely popular festival in the heart of the Peak District is back again for its 13th year. With music from the likes of The Libertines and Manic Street Preachers, as well as a cinema, mini golf and comedy, there will certainly be something to keep everyone entertained.
