Carsington Water is a large Reservoir just between Wirksworth and Ashbourne. The reservoir has been a very popular visitor attraction since being opened by the Queen in 1992.
The lively visitor centre provides a wide range of facilities. These include shops selling souvenirs, craft items, books etc. There is also a cafe and a restaurant. There is wheelchair access provided.
Carsington Water provides plenty of scope for outdoor activities. There is an active sailing club next door to the Visitors Centre. In addition, there are many opportunities for walking and cycling around the reservoir and the surrounding villages.
Cycle hire is available and there is plentiful car parking. For young children, there is a small adventure playground near the visitors centre.
